Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup apple butter
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 12 tbsp milk (for icing)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In a saucepan, heat milk and butter until warm; add to the dry ingredients.
  3. Add the egg and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes.
  5. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread apple butter over it.
  7. Sprinkle cinnamon and brown sugar on top of the apple butter.
  8. Roll the dough tightly and cut into rolls.
  9. Place rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Mix powdered sugar with milk to create icing and drizzle over warm rolls.

  • For a richer flavor, use homemade apple butter.
